Courier bag size chart: which size fits which product
A courier bag that is too small will not close. One that is too big gets folded over, the shipping label creases, and the loose plastic catches on everything in the courier's sack.
Both mistakes cost you money.
Here is the short answer. For one folded garment, 10x14 inch is a safe place to start. For jeans or two pieces together, go to 12x16. To be sure, measure your product as it will ship, add its thickness plus about an inch to both the width and the length, and pick the first bag that covers both numbers.
What courier bag sizes do we sell, and what fits in each?
We sell six sizes of tamper-proof courier bags, from 6x8 to 14x18 inches. We list them in inches, the way courier bags are usually sold in India.
The prices below are our store prices at the time of writing (October 2026), and delivery is free across India on every order. For the number of bags in each pack, see the listing for pack contents.
| Size (inches) | Store price | Typical products |
|---|---|---|
| 6x8 | Rs 199 | Phone covers, a pair of socks, hair clips, a small jewellery box |
| 8x10 | Rs 299 | A kids' t-shirt, leggings, a scarf, a slim wallet or pouch |
| 10x12 | Rs 359 | One folded adult t-shirt, innerwear sets, a thin kurti |
| 10x14 | Rs 379 | A shirt or kurti with room to spare, a dupatta, a top in its own poly |
| 12x16 | Rs 449 | Jeans, two or three t-shirts together, a saree in a soft pouch |
| 14x18 | Rs 549 | A hoodie, a single bedsheet, a towel set, a light jacket |
Please read the third column as typical uses, not test results.
Your own fold decides the size.
A t-shirt folded in half once and a t-shirt rolled tight are two very different parcels.
How do I measure my product for a courier bag?
It takes two minutes with a tape measure. Do it once for each product you sell and write the size on the shelf.
- Pack the product exactly as it will ship: folded, in its inner poly or tissue, with the tag and any thank-you card. Measure that, not the bare product.
- Note three numbers in inches: width, length and thickness.
- The bag width you need is the product width plus its thickness plus about 1 inch.
- The bag length you need is the product length plus its thickness plus about 1 inch.
- Pick the first size where both numbers fit.
Why add the thickness? Think of a rajai cover. A thick rajai needs a bigger cover than a thin one of the same length and width, because the cloth has to go around the depth as well. A flat courier bag works the same way. A 1-inch thick parcel uses up roughly 1 inch of the bag's width and 1 inch of its length.
Here is a worked example. A folded shirt in its poly measures 8 x 11 inches and is 1 inch thick. Width needed is 8 + 1 + 1 = 10 inches. Length needed is 11 + 1 + 1 = 13 inches. That is the 10x14 bag.
The 10x12 would have been too short by an inch.
The extra inch is a starting point, not a measured rule. If the bag has to be stretched to close, the seal is under strain and the corners can split in transit. Go up one size and test again.
One more thing to check is the flap. Courier bags close with an adhesive strip on a flap above the pocket, and the flap is not packing space. If you are unsure which part of the stated size is pocket, open one bag and measure the pocket yourself before you stock up.
What if my product sits between two sizes?
My advice is simple. Go up a size for soft, squashy or thick items like hoodies and folded bedsheets. Go down for flat, firm items like a boxed phone cover, where a snug fit stops the product sliding around.
Also remember that these bags are tamper-evident. As per the listing, the adhesive strip seals permanently and cannot be opened again without visible damage. So fit the product first, check it, and only then peel the liner. Keep a few spare bags on the table for the day someone packs the wrong colour.
Which products should not go in a courier bag at all?
I will be honest about what this bag does not do. Our courier bags are 60-micron LDPE film, as stated on the listing. They keep out rain and dust, they hide the contents, and they show if someone has opened the parcel. They do not cushion anything.
So keep these out of a plain courier bag:
- Glass bottles, ceramics and candles. These need wrapping and a carton. Our guide on packing fragile orders without plastic walks through it.
- Books and boxed products with sharp corners. Corners get crushed in a sack. A padded paper mailer does a better job here, and I have compared the two in padded paper mailer or plastic courier bag.
- Anything heavier than the bag looks happy holding. If you need to press it closed, it needs a box.
We have been making packaging at JPPL since 1997, and this is the one point I would want every new seller to remember. The bag protects against weather and theft. Cushioning is a separate job, and we sell honeycomb paper and padded paper mailers for exactly that job.
Where does the invoice go?
Each bag comes with an attached POD (proof of delivery) jacket for the invoice or shipping label, according to the listing. If you also ship in cartons, you will need separate pouches for those. I have written about that in our guide to packing list envelopes, in this same blog.
Common questions
Are these courier bags waterproof? Yes. We list them as waterproof and opaque. If water gets in, it will be through a badly pressed seal, not through the film. Press the adhesive strip down along its full length with your thumb, especially in the monsoon.
Can I reuse a courier bag for a return? Not the same bag. Once the seal is closed, opening it tears the bag, which is the whole point of tamper evidence. For returns, put a fresh bag in the parcel or ask the customer to use their own.
What if I order the wrong size? We accept returns within 15 days of delivery on unused items. For a change of mind, you pay the return shipping. If we send a damaged or wrong item, we replace or refund it and pay the shipping ourselves.
Still not sure which size to pick?
Pick the courier bag variant on our sample listing, which is listed at Rs 0, and fold your best-selling product into it. You will know in a minute. Then order from the courier bag listing.
