Buying brown packing tape
Brown tape is the everyday carton sealing tape. It matches brown corrugated boxes, so the seal looks tidy and a little scuffing in transit does not show. Warehouses, ecommerce sellers, retail shops and families moving house all use it.
Most rolls here are brown BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) tape. I would choose by width first:
- 1 inch x 65 m, for small packets, envelopes and office use.
- 2 inch (48 mm) x 65 m, the standard width for courier cartons. For higher volume there is 2 inch x 300 m.
- 3 inch, as 65 m or 300 m rolls, for big or heavy cartons where a wider strip covers more of the flap.
Then think about length.
One rule of the trade: compare tape by the metre, not by the roll. A single 300 m roll holds more tape than four 65 m rolls, and the price per roll hides that completely.
The collection also has Brown Kraft Paper Tape, 48 mm x 50 m. It is a paper tape that tears by hand and is recyclable with paper waste. My suggestion is to try it if the rest of your packaging is already paper.

Questions buyers ask
Is 2 inch tape the same as 48 mm tape?
Yes, for packing tape. The trade uses both names for the same standard roll, even though two inches is closer to fifty millimetres. It is the width most courier cartons are sealed with.
Should I buy brown or transparent tape?
Brown on brown cartons, for a neat look that hides scuffs. Clear on white or printed boxes, where you want the print or a label to show through the tape. Plenty of sellers keep both on the packing table.
Can you print our brand name on packing tape?
Yes. We print logos on 48 mm packing tape with a minimum order of five boxes, and the printed tape is ready in about two weeks. Send us your logo and carton colour and my team will suggest the right tape.
Do I need a tape dispenser?
For a few parcels a day, no. Beyond that, I would buy one. A hand dispenser saves time and wasted tape, and the 65 m rolls fit standard dispensers. For the longer rolls, check that your dispenser actually takes the bigger roll before you order.
