Best kraft paper tape for ecommerce boxes in India: a self-adhesive kraft paper tape about 48 mm wide. We keep two very different tapes in this collection. Both are made of paper. They do completely different jobs, so here is the plain difference as I see it.
Brown Kraft Paper Tape is a carton sealing tape, 48 mm x 50 m, sold as a single roll or in packs of 12 and 24. It is self-adhesive. It needs no water, and you can tear it by hand or run it on a standard tape dispenser. Sellers who have already removed plastic from inside the box use it to close the outside too, and being paper, it is recyclable with paper waste along with the carton.
Masking Tape is crepe paper tape, 1 or 2 inch wide, 20 m or 50 m long, in sets of 3 or 6. It is made for painting, labelling, crafts and the office. It peels off without leaving residue.
I would not seal a courier carton with masking tape, because a tape designed to come off cleanly is the wrong tape for a box that must stay shut.
One honest limit. A kraft paper tape roll is 50 m, while our standard BOPP rolls are 65 m, so plan a few extra rolls when you switch.

Which kraft paper tape is best for ecommerce boxes?
A 48 mm self-adhesive kraft paper tape suits most ecommerce cartons. It tears by hand and needs no water. Use water-activated gummed tape only if you pack heavy boxes on a gummed tape machine. Ours is 48 mm x 50 m, in packs of 1, 12 or 24 rolls.
Does kraft paper tape need water to stick?
No. Ours is a self-adhesive paper tape, so you apply it like any packing tape, by hand or with a dispenser. Water-activated gummed tape is a different product, and it is not part of this collection.
Should I switch from BOPP tape to kraft paper tape?
Switch if the rest of your packaging is already paper and you want the tape to match. Stay on BOPP if cost per carton matters most, because paper tape costs more per metre. Our kraft paper tape vs BOPP tape guide covers both sides.
Will masking tape leave marks on walls or furniture?
It should not. It is made to peel off without residue, which is why painters use it along edges. Like any tape, take it off once the job is done rather than leaving it on for months in the sun.
Can I write on paper tape?
